In 1998, the University of
Siena started a college radio project. After a period of testing,
Facoltà di Frequenza (FdF) was launched in September 2000.
It was the first Italian university radio and broadcasting both
on FM (99,4 Mhz) and on web streaming.
This is our history as recorded on the Official Site, but in
fact there have been three different organizations broadcasting
on the 99,4 frequency in the last ten years, each calling themselves
Facoltà di Frequenza
The first one was "a communication laboratory made by the
university commu-nity for the community itself. A radio that
talks about the University of Siena not neglecting the rest of
the world".
The second FdF emancipated itself from the constrains of campus
radio, choos-ing information and culture as the key features
of its broadcasting soul.
In April 2006, FdF began to
loose support of the academic institution. Three dif-ferent,
highly interrelated, events mark this withdrawal. The perpetual
boycott from the "upper floors", the absence of a staff
credited by the University and the shift into an "Indie
Music Oriented" channel have all been significant steps
taken by the university to shut down the station.
The 1st of July this last
step comes into an end. The existence of a fourth step in the
history of Facoltà di Frequenza, the first Italian college
radio, is completely up to us and, if you want to help us, to
you.
Actually, there's no way to
say goodbye
